Our Races

Each year Calder Valley Fell Runners host a number of races and similarly so does one of our members. We really believe in putting something back into the sport.  We enjoy and organise a number of races each year, from the fantastic Coiners 7 miler in May to the twenty mile epic “Wadsworth Trog” in the depths of winter.

The races cover a variety of terrain from easy tracks to technical descents on the Pennine Moors and there's something for everyone from the most experienced to the beginner. It's all about the sheer enjoyment of the fells.

After making that race effort, in most cases it's back to the pub for a beer and chat. Some of the races are from cricket clubs, pubs or church halls where refreshments are provided and always a good bit of social banter.

Categories

In our ongoing commitment to inclusivity, Calder Valley Fell Runners (CVFR) takes pride in ensuring that all participants in our races feel comfortable and supported. Acknowledging the significance of race categories, we strive to establish an environment where every runner can compete feeling at ease with the category they choose.

We shall adhere to the guidelines provided by the Fell Runners Association, UK Athletics, and World Athletics regarding race entries in the Women’s category, this commitment ensures the ongoing competitiveness of the Women’s category. Then to further this CVFR have thoroughly reviewed the categories for race entries and awards, ensuring that no runners need to feel compelled to register under a category titled “Men” if they do not feel it accurately represents them.

To maintain fairness, CVFR-organised races now allow you to enter in one of two categories: "Open" or "Women." The "Open" category is open to all runners, while the "Women" category is exclusively for those meeting the eligibility criteria set by the FRA. Prizes will be awarded for both the "Overall" competition (accessible to any race participant) and the "Women's" competition (adhering to specific eligibility criteria). Team prizes will be granted to the fastest four runners from each club, with a minimum of two runners from the Women's category.
