The Hebden Bridge Fell Race and Henderson End Fell Race
Starting on Hebden Bridge Park, this race climbs to Stoodley Pike and back via Erringden Moor. Ten Calder Valley Fell Runners were not put off by the unseasonal wet and windy conditions and enjoyed the challenge of a very muddy course. Comfortable race winner was Ben Mounsey of Calder Valley Fell Runners in 44.35. Ben was followed home by clubmate Alex Whittem in 46.46 with third place, just four seconds later, going to host club (Todmorden Harriers) runner Dwane Dixon. The ladies race was won by Julie Field of Stainland Lions in 60.49 and Stainland Lions also took the ladies team prize. Calder Valley were mens team winners with Graeme Brown supporting Ben and Alex. 51 runners finished the course.
Also on this evening our Lancashire based runner, Tim Ellis, continued his fine form winning Henderson’s End Fell Race from Rivington Barn, Horwich. This is a 6 mile race over Winter Hill with an 800ft climb. Of the 73 runners who completed the course, Tim was the only Calder Valley member.

Knowl Hill Fell Race
The Knowl Hill Fell Race is the final run of the Rochdale Harriers Three Day Event from Norden, Rochdale. Friday evening’s 10k road race starts the event followed by a trail run on Saturday morning. Calder Valley didn’t have any runners who completed the whole event but Andy Thorpe finished the fell race in a very creditable third place in a time of 46.53. Race winner was Rossendale Harrier’s Anthony Dalton in 45.57 and second place went to Derek Simpson of Rochdale Harriers in 46.37. Two other Calder Valley runners completed the race, Tony Steward and Graham Davy. 115 runners finished the race.
