CVFR Covid-19 Considerations

With the arrival of the latest government guidelines (16/3/20) to avoid non-essential social contact CVFR has considered where our own activities fit in to this.

Training

While the government guidance advises against meeting in groups, it does not explicitly forbid this. As such we will follow suit and advise against meeting as groups for runs. We will therefore be cancelling our group runs until further notice.  This affects our Tuesday night training along with any other training sessions and social runs such as the Monday Cafe runs or the Saturday Resolution Runs.

Understandably this exercise is an important part of certain peoples physical and mental health, therefore individuals within the club might choose to still meet if they feel it safe and appropriate.  Clearly you should do this within the boundaries of guidelines on isolation if required and avoiding close contact.  We are not encouraging groups to meet as a club and no longer have our booking for the meeting room at MCC.

While doing your own training please be especially mindful of the risk of injury, now is not a time that the NHS has much spare capacity for self inflicted sprains etc.

Our Junior Training involves children and volunteers in a situation that does require close proximity so that will unfortunately be cancelled for the time being.

Meetings

The scheduled information evening with CVSRT on 23rd March has been postponed as have any other extra curricular activities within the club.

Competitions

We had been trying to see a way to continue with our club competitions so as to allow people a chance to escape the worries of every day life, though the latest FRA guidance to cancel or postpone races is going to make this extremely uncertain for all concerned.

The club champs, along with Kings and Queens will be cancelled for 2020.

The Ultra champs will still go ahead so long as 3 races take place in 2020, otherwise it too shall be cancelled.  With the remaining races due to be very late in the year there is still a potential for them to be able to be run.

The Summer Series races also take place later in the year and there is a potential that this may still be able to run.  A decision on this Series will be taken nearer the time as to whether or not it appears viable for it to go ahead.

If a race is postponed and takes place in the same calendar year then it will still count even if it clashes with another significant race. The only exception being that if the rescheduled date clashes with a race organised by CVFR, then the rescheduled race will NOT count towards the champs as we ask for support from our runners at such races.

If the number of races available does drop then it may prove difficult to get the required number of counters.  In this case the number of races being counted towards the final score will be modified according to the tables below.

Number of Summer Series races that take place Number of races taken to generate score
6 4
5 3
4 3
3 3
2 Cancel Series

Club Races

Currently our races are a long way off so decisions on whether races go ahead will have to follow the most up to date guidelines from Government and FRA, though current guidance from the FRA is that races are cancelled or postponed.  The next club organised race is the Coiners Fell Race in May and a final decision will be made by early April as more guidance becomes available as to if and when this might take place.

Filling the Gap

Obviously all these cancellations leaves a huge hole in the calendar.   We are exploring ways to fill this as a committee and would welcome opinions from club members as to what they would like to see by way of activities that allow us to socialise without making contact.

Please keep an eye on the website / facebook / mailing list for details of forthcoming activities.
