Castle C’alf

2024 sees the third running of Castle Carr's little brother, a superb race in its own right.
This race covers the final stages of the full race, including passing through the stunning Castle Carr estate.

Getting there

Getting a train to Hebden Bridge station is a great option. Bus 595 departs from the station at 11:48 and gets to the Hare & Hounds at 12:00. The stop at the pub is 'Billy Lane, Old Town'.

There are hourly buses back to the station after the race, or it is a downhill walk.

If you do come by car, please car share if possible. Do not park in the pub car park, or directly opposite the pub.

Race requirements

The race is licensed by the FRA under UKA rules and is therefore a non-GPS race. You are allowed to use a GPS device to record your route and display your distance travelled during the race. However electronic devices cannot be used to aid navigation except in the case of an emergency. If you choose to use any GPS functions to navigate to safety you must declare yourself as a non-competitive participant at the finish.

FRA mandatory minimum kit is compulsory including waterproof full body cover (Waterproof full body cover means a pair of waterproof trousers and a waterproof jacket with an integrated hood. Both items must have taped seams) + hat (not a buff) + gloves + map + compass (not out of a Christmas cracker) + whistle + emergency food.

Kit check prior to race number allocation on the day. If you don't have the correct kit you won't be allowed to race.


 

Route description

The route will be flagged through the private Castle Carr estate.

‘Half’ runners are likely to meet ‘Full’ race runners at Crow Hill and share the same route from there on.

Please do not go through the private Castle Carr estate before race day.
