Why join us?

We are a friendly and fun club who have a full spectrum of members including an active juniors section, thriving ladies and mens teams as well as many members who run just for pure enjoyment. By the way it’s only £10  which is a bargain at 2008 prices!

So how come it’s so cheap to join?

The club is run for the benefit of it’s members and the profits from the races we organise go back into the club to help pay for everything you get as member. All we ask of you is that you offer to help support the staging of some of our races and turn out for the relays if you’ve said you’d like to run. If you would like to get more involved than we’ve a very active committee so you could seek to be nominated onto this.

What ever your abilities or commitments you will get a warm welcome. Here’s new member’s Vicky’s opinion to prove that it could be for you.

“I decided to give fell running a go mainly because I fancied a change to running on roads, pavements and canal towpaths and I’m really glad I did. My first run, a kind of baptism of fire, was really hard and felt fast (looking back I don’t think it was). But saying that I loved it. I felt very supported and encouraged to keep going (even when I fell over) and I was even given some tips on running both up and down hills. Believe me I needed them. I was shattered at the end, in fact, I was unable to finish my usual post run beer such was my exhaustion. That’s never happened since so I take that as an indication of my improvement.

So yes, there’s no denying there are hills to be got up, some bigger and steeper than others and some you have to walk up a bit. But, you do get better at getting up them, eventually, so I’m told. Also, you’re never actually left to struggle up on your own. Even if you end up running with people a bit faster than you there’s always chance to catch up and ‘regroup’. Running with the club also means you find out about local races and can recce the routes with some of the runners beforehand. Much to my amazement I’ve actually run in some of the fell races and am planning more in the near future. It’s the taking part that counts which is a damn good job given my results.

All in all, CVFR are a really friendly and welcoming group of runners. If you come along and give it a go you might just find you’re really good at it or, like me, you just like it. If not, there’s always the pub afterwards”.
