What shall I carry? You must carry:
  • waterproof whole body cover with hood and taped seams
  • hat and gloves
  • map of the route, suitable for navigating with
  • a proper compass (not out of a Christmas cracker!)
  • whistle
  • emergency food

If you want water during the race, carry a cup or water bottle with you. Two marshals on the route (at CP4 and before CP8) should have water containers. But they won’t have plastic cups.

Bring your kit to registration because it will be checked there.

Route Map NB: there is a slight change in the route from this year (2019): after checkpoint 8 flags will take you directly into the Castle Carr estate on the route to the finish, rather than going via checkpoint 9 as we used to.

The race route goes across the Castle Carr estate to checkpoint 1, then does a complete anticlockwise circuit around the estate and moors. Once the circuit is done (to checkpoint 8), you will head back across the estate to the finish.

The route will be flagged through the private Castle Carr estate, but apart from that will mostly not be flagged. You must be able to find your way between the checkpoints. On the moor you are free to choose your own route. Off the moor the best route is almost certainly the route shown on the map. In any event do not trespass. Do not climb walls or fences.
