  • waterproof whole body cover with hood and taped seams
  • hat and gloves
  • map of the route, suitable for navigating with
  • a proper compass (not out of a Christmas cracker!)
  • whistle
  • emergency food

Bring your kit to registration because it will be checked there.

Route Notes The route will mostly be unflagged. You must be able to find your way between the checkpoints.

The race goes through the private estate of Castle Carr. Please do not go through the out-of-bounds area shown on the recce map before race day. The route through the estate will be well flagged for the race.

There will be organised recces of the race route on Sunday July 16th and Aug 20th. Check the race Facebook page for details (link above)

Route Map Because part of the route is through private land, below is a map of the recommended route to recce on.
Start by crossing Dimmin Dale to the gate on the edge of the estate, and then do an anticlockwise loop.
This recce route is 14 miles with 3200′ climb.

Recce route

-On race day, the race route goes across the Castle Carr estate to checkpoint 1, then does a complete anticlockwise circuit around the estate and moors. Once the full circuit is done (checkpoint 9), retrace your steps across the estate to the finish.

Race day route

Hint: the route shown onto the moor is not mandatory. There are several stiles that may cause bottlenecks. If you do not want to queue at the stiles, carry on the track to come onto the moor slightly further northwest (as the old Tom Tittiman race used to go). See this map for options:

Checkpoints 1: SE027307 trod
2: SE011303 standing stone
3: SE007276 path junction
4: SE010264 path at bottom of woods
5: SE014278 sheepstones trig
6: SE021266 gate into woods
7: SE022276 crow hill (timeout at 14:00)
8: SE034302 rocking stone
9: SE027307 trod (same as checkpoint 1)
NB: there is a timeout at CP7. If you arrive there after 2pm you must check in with the marshal there, retire and make your own way back to the start/finish.
