Karl Gray climbing to Slieve Meelmore, the first of many hills in the 12miles/6500' race. Karl had a great run mixing it with the best in the country to come 6th. With team mates Ben Mounsey (top 20), Adam Breaks, Jason Stevens and Jonnie Moore the men place 5th team overall. Not to be outdone the vets team place a fantastic 6th place in the vets competition.

And then to the girls. It was Top Spot. Helen Fines (left in the picture) was 3rd lady and with Jo Waites in 8th (centre) and Sally Newman (10th) the girls won 1st team prize. A great start for the club in the British championships.

Shaun Godsman of Calder Valley (in the middle) was the winner of a strong field at Midgley Moor in a time of 38.28. Team mate Alex Whittem was a very close 2nd being only 6 seconds adrift. Third place went to James Logue of Horwich in 39.34. The Calder Men won the team prize with the third counter being Graham Hill who was in 14th place. The first lady back was Emma Clayton from Scunthorpe in 38th place with a time of 50.20. With Todmorden Harriers having this as one of their championship races they fielded a strong ladies team who won the team prize.

The Calder girls had a strong team of 11 racing at the first English championship. Helen Fines was 2nd with Sally in 5th and Jo Waites in 7th they were just pipped to the post for 1st team by Bingley who just sneaked in in front of them.
A good turn out of Calder Valley members saw Adam Breaks taking 2nd place with Clare Kenny 6th Lady in the individual prizes. In the team placings Jason Stevens and Richard Greewnood were 12th overall and 2nd team, Anne and Bill Johnson took the 1st mixed team place and Barbara Lonsdale and Thirza were 1st ladies team. Well done all
