Wadsworth Trog

The beast creator, Bernard Pierce sadly passed away in 2017. Here's a link to Ben Mounsey's 2016 attempt to tame the Beast.

A local classic and an excellent long route to start the season. Navigational skill required.

Getting there

We would encourage anyone who can get to the race by public transport to do so. Here are some helpful instructions.

Getting to Hebden Bridge by train
The town is well serviced by trains coming direct from many towns or train stations such as
Blackpool North, Preston, Blackburn, Accrington, Burnley, Manchester Victoria, Rochdale, Walsden, Todmorden, Halifax, Bradford, Leeds, York, Brighouse, Dewsbury, Morley, Wigan and Chester.

Carrying on your journey by bus
Once out of the train station there is a bus stop for the 595 bus which is the bus to Old Town for the race.

Timetable|Metro (wymetro.com)
Bus no 595 - Hebden Bridge - Crimsworth – TLC Travel – bustimes.org
Every 30 min on a Saturday. Pick up in HB train station and Hebden Bridge town centre. The stop for alighting is right outside Wadworth Community Centre where the race registration for is.

You can also get buses from the Halifax end of the valley to Hebden Bridge. Then carry on your journey using the 595 bus from Hebden Bridge train station or Hebden Bridge town centre to race registration at Wadworth Community Centre.

If you are coming by car PLEASE car share as parking is always very tight and it's way more fun, environmentally friendly and cost effective to share.

Race requirements

The race is licensed by the FRA under UKA rules and is therefore a non-GPS race. You are allowed to use a GPS device to record your route and display your distance travelled during the race. However electronic devices cannot be used to aid navigation except in the case of an emergency. If you choose to use any GPS functions to navigate to safety you must declare yourself as a non-competitive participant at the finish.

FRA mandatory minimum kit is compulsory including waterproof full body cover (Waterproof full body cover means a pair of waterproof trousers and a waterproof jacket with an integrated hood. Both items must have taped seams) + hat (not a buff) + gloves + map + compass (not out of a Christmas cracker) + whistle + emergency food.

We would advise, due to the time of year and if the weather is bad, that you carry at least an extra base layer as this route goes over some very exposed terrain.

Kit check prior to race number allocation on the day. Not the correct kit you won't be allowed to race.
