Beginners/Improvers Group

WINTER TRAINING
In previous years only a hardcore elite of runners has ventured off road regularly for Tuesday winter training runs, but anyone who is prepared to go at a slower pace and stay off road this winter is invited to come along and join the improvers group.  An off road run for slower runners will set off each Tuesday night, at the same time as the main pack road run (6.45pm for 7pm). We will aim to run for an hour to an hour and a half, covering up to 6 miles or so. The emphasis will be on getting out, rather than any great advances in fitness or speed. Bearing in mind it will be much colder and windier up on the moors so if you want to run off road in the dark this winter, please come equipped with waterproof cagoule, hat, and good head torch as a minimum.  You are strongly advised to wear trail or fell shoes – you will struggle to stay on your feet in road shoes in the mud – also, wear fitting leggings, or your sodden jogging bottoms may end up weighing you down. Mud will be an integral part of the experience!

SPRING/SUMMER RUNS
We have an entry level / beginners group running every Tuesday, meeting at the same place and time as the main pack run.  Runs are between 4.5 and 6 miles off road, and are planned to give you the chance to see yourself progressing from week to week, while exploring the many routes the Calder Valley has to offer.  It is fell running, so there will be a hill to climb, but as a beginner you should aim to walk briskly up the steep sections rather than sprinting to the top!  If you can manage to march up a hill and then recover while running along the flatter top sections, then you’re probably fit enough to keep up with this group.  Fitter members are encouraged to chat more to slow them down!  Some examples of recent training runs are here so why not give one a go?
